SUBMISSIONS

The first Latina Comedy Festival was held last year in August 2022 in Chicago and was a one-event festival. (You have to start somewhere!). We sold out our marathon-style showcase that featured 25 Latina/x/e stand up comedians. In 2023, over 500 people attended 5 showcases, over three days at various venues across Chicago during Hispanic Heritage Month. Now in 2024, we are continuing to grow and looking for the top Latina comedians from across North America to perform at this year’s expanded festival.

The mission of the Latina Comedy Festival is to celebrate and promote Latina stand up comedians from across the country and give them a platform to perform in multiple showcases and network with other Latina comedians.

The Latina Comedy Festival will run Thursday, October 3rd, 2024 through Saturday, October 5th, 2024.

Applications will be open on Monday, July 1st, 2024 and will close on Wednesday, July 31st, 2024.

Yes, there is a nominal application fee of $25 (many other festivals charge up to $75!). The application fee goes directly to covering costs to review submissions and does not result in any profit. The submission fee is not refundable. Incomplete applications and those without payment will not be processed.

Submissions are reviewed by a panel including the producers of the festival and select area comedy professionals. Applications are judged on quality, originality, audience reaction and most importantly – how funny you are!

We will contact all applicants with a decision by Sunday, August 18th, 2024.

Selection priority will be given to comedians who identify as female, femme, non-binary, woman/womyn and Latina, Latinx, Latine, Afro-Latina/x/e and/or Hispanic. You also must be a stand up comedian or stand up musical comedian only. We are not accepting submissions for improv, storytelling, or other types of comedy performances at this time.

As an LCF 2024 performer, you are responsible for your own transportation to and from Chicago, and transportation, lodging, and food during the festival while you’re in Chicago. We are working with some local comedians to see if they are able to house any out of town comedians. You’ll be able to express interest in this when you apply. We will also let selected performers know if we have any specific lodging recommendations or arrangements.

Luckily, LCF 2024 does not happen on the same weekend as the Chicago Marathon. However, we do anticipate a busy weekend and suggest all accepted comics book their lodging as soon as possible.

Currently, we are unable to offer monetary compensation for performers. We will provide snacks/food and drinks which will vary per showcase, professional photos and video footage of your performance and a festival schwag bag.

If you are selected for LCF 2024, you will perform at least twice in two separate showcases and possibly more depending on your availability and final showcase schedule. You will also have access to networking opportunities and our comedian workshop, festival after parties, complimentary snacks and drinks (non-alcoholic), and more.

The festival is open to comedians of all stages in their comedy career. As long as you have at least a 5 minute performance clip to submit and complete the other requirements, you can apply and will be considered.
